2nd International Conference on Governance for Sustainable Development of Caribbean Small Island Developing States

07 - 09 March 2012, Curaçao

The UNESCO Chair "Caribbean Small Island Developing States"

The governance of Caribbean SIDS for sustainable development is a big challenge. Besides nature human behavior puts a lot of pressure on the development. Phenomena like earthquakes (Haiti 2010) and hurricanes are examples. Hurricane Tomas damaged the whole infrastructure in Curacao (2010 - 2011). But also the raising of the sea level, the deterioration of the coral reefs and scarcity of water due to climate change are serious threads. But too often the issue of sustainability is reduced to “Planet” issues, putting the issues related to “People” and “Profit’ on a second level.

Fachseminar Erneuerbare Energie: Technologische Ansätze und Lösungen für Entwicklungsländer

16. Juni 2011, Hamburg, Germany [in German language]
